Older Americans Month

Did you know that the US Administration on Aging has designated May as Older Americans Month? The follow-up question is who qualifies as an older American? While there is room for debate, the general consensus is that 55 is the minimum age of admissions. I've still got 10 years to go before I can celebrate May as my month.

This year's theme is "Living Together For a Better Tomorrow". Somewhat vacuous sounding, but the goals are positive, if obvious.
  • Exercise
  • Eat well
  • Be happy
  • Stop smoking
I've simplified the official verbiage, but essentially this is the message. Now to put it into actionable items:
  • Exercise - walk if you can, dance, shadow box.
  • Eat well - fruits, vegetables and grains. Minimize saturated fat sources such as meats and fried foods.
  • Be happy - interact with people, enjoy music, dance, learn something new and fun, enjoy your meals (may at times contradict Eating well), tell really bad jokes, verbally abuse your kids if it makes you happy.
  • Stop smoking - enough said.
